We envision a society where people with autism and/or learning disabilities are independent, active and connected members of society, where they have regular meaningful occupation and where their contribution is recognised and valued.
Farms offer a stimulating and sensory environment where engaging in purposeful farm activities can transform people’s experiences of learning and significantly improve their capacity to build new skills. We see the positive benefit that farming life brings to people’s health and well-being, and we are passionate about increasing access to this benefit for more people.
FarmAbility is FIT’s key programme. FarmAbility offers a day service for adults with autism and learning disabilities, a schools programme and an EmployAbility scheme for young people with autism and/or learning disabilities. We also run work placements for students of Occupational Therapy.
FIT is based on FAI (Food Animal Initiative) Farms in Wytham. FAI Farms is a subsidiary of the Benchmark Holdings plc group of companies. It is a beautiful, 1,900-acre organic livestock farm located five miles from the centre of Oxford.
